Guildford based law firm, rhw Solicitors LLP got their hands dirty recently during a volunteering day with local charity, the Surrey Hills Society. A team from rhw offered a day of their time to help clear lands and build a shelter for the Society at Norbury Park near Dorking in Surrey.
Chris and Steve started their transcontinental run in mid-August and have braved temperatures of 110 degrees Fahrenheit in the Nevada desert. They are now closing in on the Rockies in Colorado as they attempt the journey of a lifetime. Neither of them are strangers to long distance running. Chris has been a competitive runner since the age of 12 and is the only person to have run all 31 London marathons in under three hours - a feat recognised the Guinness Book of Records.
After somewhat of a shaky start, whereby the other teams seemed to have set off earlier than predicted and we were therefore unsure of our trajectory, our team, which comprised of Samantha Jago, Sophie Lovell, Sandra Amoruso, Richard Brown and Dog Ellie, set off along the River Wey and up towards the North Downs.
Samantha trained as a mediator with Resolution, an organisation that promotes couples resolving matters in a constructive and non-confrontational way. She has been practicing family law for over six years and is an accredited family law specialist with both Resolution and the Law Society. Samantha is also a law lecturer with Guildford College.
Resolution specialists are members who have submitted themselves to a rigorous assessment to demonstrate the highest levels of knowledge, practical application of the law, and best practice. The assessment compromises an exam, conducted over a weekend, two dissertations and evidence of experience in specific practice areas. Specialists must also have gained at least five years post qualification experience.
The BEST Business Group was set up 10 years ago this year, starting out as the Guildford unit of BRE (Business Referral Exchange). Nick has been the lawyer in the group since it started up.
Samantha Jago achieves Family Law Accreditation Status with the Law Society
The walk brought together teams from a number of local law firms and covered over 10km of beautiful countryside around Guildford, from Guildford Combined Court along the River Wey to Loseley Park and Mount Browne, and back to the town. Leading the walk were Lord Justice Toulson and Lady Toulson, District Judge Raeside and Sue Seakens, Chief Executive for Surrey Law Society.
A much missed member of rhw has returned in the shape of family lawyer Samantha Jago. Samantha joined the firm in April 2008 and has been a lively addition ever since.
