On Monday 16th May 2011, a small team from rhw took part in the Surrey Legal Sponsored Walk which, every year, brings together teams from a number of local legal firms, for this walk across 10Km of gorgeous Surrey countryside.

After somewhat of a shaky start, whereby the other teams seemed to have set off earlier than predicted and we were therefore unsure of our trajectory, our team, which comprised of Samantha Jago, Sophie Lovell, Sandra Amoruso, Richard Brown and Dog Ellie, set off along the River Wey and up towards the North Downs.

On our journey, we saw “water chickens”, came across a lost dog with a handful of tags on its collar for us to call its owner from, a child playing with a yellow balloon – which we soon came to realise, was one of the markers to guide us at junctions!

After some time, we emerged from the woods and onto a little road which led us to a pub when Samantha quickly realised that we were completely in the wrong place! We had veered off somewhere earlier (probably where the yellow balloon ought to have been) and ended up adding an extra hour to our walk!

In the end, tired but finally back on track from having asked directions from a passer by, we made it back to Guildford. Unfortunately too late for the drinks and snacks reception, but all in good spirits that we had done our best and that we had just managed to raise £153 (that’s JUST just rhw and does NOT include our own personal fundraising), which rhw offered to match to bring our fund raising to a grand total of £306 for the Surrey Law Centre, which offers free legal advice to those less fortunate in Surrey.
